Okay so its no secret that Texas knows how to BBQ, but until I met Matt Dallman I didn’t realize the passion that is behind the smoker! With a BBQ cook-off happening just about every weekend, the competition is at an all time high to have the best smoked meats. So to be a Kansas City BBQ restaurant in the state of Texas…takes some BALLS!!! ( excuse my language there was just no other word to suffice) 18th&Vine is hands down my favorite BBQ spot in Dallas. Getting its name from the historic jazz district in Kansas City, this spot takes BBQ and puts a fine dinning spin on things.

Built in a remodeled home, the decor feels homey, with old records on the wall and pictures of Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie, the space is definitely channeling jazz vibes. The upstairs roost, has a bar, full dinning and it serves as a live music venue on the weekends, perfect for a date night! Price point is a little more pricey than your average BBQ spot, but only because this is no average place. With more than just smoked meat to offer the entree selections are to die for. Award winning pit master Matt Dallman and award winning chef Scott Gottlich team up to put a BBQ spin on traditionally prepared entrees; BBQ brisket stroganoff, Bay of Fundi salmon, amongst other seasonly changing entrees keeps me coming back for more.

Amongst the awesome food lies an exquisite drink menu featuring smoked simple syrups, smoked roasted tomatoes in the bloody mary, and great happy hour specials!

One of my personal favorites is the Chef’s sausage board, with Lamb Merguez, French Toulouse, local Deep Ellum Bleu cheese, smoked cheddar, and a beer onion marmalade. Perfect app for the table…or for yourself if your a cheese head like me!

Roasted Bay of Fundi Salmon with smoked parsnip puree, brussel sprouts, and grape disks. One of my favorite entrees on the winter menu!

Matts pick changes daily but i lucked out with this pulled pork, ribs and brisket combination. House made pickled red onions and pickles a perfectly matched with the meat. If the Matts pick is over ambitious for you, then go for the Two “Que” Plate, which is your choice of two meats and one side, perfectly sampler for one!

Run in casually to grab a bite, or dress it up for a jazzy date night (see what I did there?)! This is pretty much the range of most casual to the most formal i would wear there!
